BUFFALO, NY - Under the direction of new head coach Donnie Vinson, the University at Buffalo wrestling team will kick off the 2024-25 season on Sunday at the Clarion Open.
The Bulls return 21 wrestlers, including five starters. The starters include Kaleb Burgess, Max Elton, Andy Lucinsky, Lonnell Owens-Pabon and Hunter Shaut.
Burgess started 14 duals at 149 a season ago and went 5-9. He won two of his matches by fall.
Elton started 16 duals at 125 as a true freshman last season and looks to build on that experience this year. He went 6-10 in duals, including 4-4 in MAC duals.
Lucinsky started 10 duals early in the year before suffering a season-ending injury. The redshirt-junior went 3-7 in duals and 0-1 in MAC duals.
Owens-Pabon split time between 197 and 285 last season, finishing the year at 285. He had a strong showing at the Mid-American Conference Championships, placing fifth in his first time competing at the event. He is projected to wrestle at 197 this season.
Hunter Shaut returns for his sixth season with the Bulls and is projected to start at 165. He is coming off his best season in which he won 10 duals and went 5-3 in MAC duals. He took seventh place at the MAC Championships.
Other returning wrestlers that saw time in the starting lineup last season include Troy Guerra (125), Cole French (133), Dylan Schell (174) and Robbie Unruh (285).
20 wrestlers are slated to compete at the Clarion Open.
