Bulls Compete at Clarion Open on Sunday

CLARION, PA - The University at Buffalo wrestling team opened the season on Sunday by competing at the Clarion Open. The Bulls had three wrestlers earn spots on the podium.

Kaleb Burgess was UB's top finisher on the day, taking second place in the 157-bracket. Entering the day as the four-seed, Burgess upset top-seed Zack Martin of Michigan, 10-7, in the semifinals. Burgess lost to three-seed Brock Herman of Ohio State in the championship bout.

Raphael Knapp and Marcus Petite, finished fifth at 174 and 184, respectively.

Knapp defeated teammate Dylan Schell, 4-2, in the consolation of four to advance to the fifth-place match. Knapp earned a 7-3 decision over Edinboro's Brody Evans to take fifth.

Petite, the five seed, upset four-seed Mikey Bartush, 8-3, in the consolation of four to advance to the fifth-place match. He then took fifth place with a tight 2-1 decision over Bucknell's Tyler Bienus.

In all, 20 Bulls competed on the afternoon.

Max Elton had three wins in the 125-pound bracket.

Aaron Lanster (141), Brady Unger (157), Charlie Foster (174), Dylan Schell (174) and Magnus Bibla (285) all had two wins.

Also earning a win on Sunday were Cole French (141), Coy Raines (197), Hunter Shaut (165), Jack Macdonald (285), Kieran Cullen (149) ad Sam Ewing (149).
