Elmira Women's Wrestling Opens Season with Seven Podium Finishes at ESU Open

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA. - The Elmira College women's wrestling team opened its season on Sunday at the 2024 East Stroudsburg University Open as the Soaring Eagles placed third in the team standings, with Zoey Lints '27, Skylah Chakouian '25, and Tayana Labady '25 advancing to the title bout at their respective weight classes.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Zoey Lints '27 would match up against Aine Drury from King University (TN) at 145 pounds in the title bout. Lints entered the bout ranked fourth, while Drury was ranked second in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll. Drury would be victorious over Lints with a pin to secure the 145-pound title.
Lints opened her tournament with three consecutive pins to advance to the semifinals, where she notched a tech fall win to advance to the first-place bout against Drury.

Skylah Chakouian '25 battled a pair of familiar faces in the semifinals and title bout at 160 pounds as she defeated fellow All-American Nyla Burgess from Gannon via a pin in the semis to advance to the first-place match.

Chakouian faced another All-American, Tiffani Baublitz, from East Stroudsburg, in the title match as Baublitz recorded a tech fall over Chakouian to secure the 160-pound title. Chakouian notched a pair of falls along with a tech fall to advance to the semifinals.

Tayana Labady '25 matched up against Madeline Hodges from Sacred Heart at 207 pounds in the title match. Labady entered the match ranked 10th, while Hodges was ranked sixth in the NWCA Coaches Poll. Hodges secured the 207-pound title with a pin of Labady in the first-place bout.

Labady entered the title bout with a 3-0 record on the day after notching a tech fall and a 4-3 decision against Jocelyn Cacek from Frostburg to advance to the title bout.

Gabby Bradigan '26 would be matched up against nationally ranked Virginia Foard in the semifinals at 131 pounds as Foard recorded a tech fall to advance to the title bout. Bradigan then faced Alexandra Fitzgerald from Sacred Heart in the third-place bout as Fitzgerald notched a tech fall.

Emily Sindoni '27 made her debut for the Soaring Eagles with a fourth-place finish at 160 pounds after battling Baublitz in the semifinals and Burgess in the third-place match. Sindoni would be pinned in the semis before dropping a tight 10-6 decision against Burgess.

Megan Edwards '27 and Ragan Retell '28 also recorded podium finishes for the Purple & Gold as Edwards placed sixth wrestling at 124 pounds, while Retell debuted with a sixth-place finish at 138 pounds for Elmira.
