Millersville, PA- The Alfred State Wrestling team placed 8th out of 18 teams at the Millersville Open. Two Pioneers placed second in their respective weight class.
After a bye, Dianna Pineda went on to win two matches by major decisions. The first came against Arianna Gonzalez (Cedar Crest College), the second against Alessandra Rodriguez (Muhlenberg Women's). This led her to the 1st place round, in which she lost by a fall against Liliana Zaku-ramos (Felician University) earning her a 2nd place title in the 124-weight class.
Yaletsy Tamayo also took 2nd place but in the 207-weight class. Tamayo had a bye which was followed by two wins, the first against Sophie Diaz (Bethany College WV) and the second against Ziyona Jackson (Felician University). Tamayo then suffered a loss against Peyton Fries (Alverna University) due to a fall.
Brooke Walsh was 2-3 on the day, earning a bye and taking a win on the mat by fall against Carmelarose Fowler (Centenary). Walsh would then go on to lose three straight matches as she took 6th place in the 138th weight class.
The Pioneers will be back on the mat Saturday, November 23rd at Buffalo State at 9 am.
