Binghamton Joins New Division in EIWA

NEWS

Bearcats among seven teams included in the EIWA's Independence Division

VESTAL, N.Y. - Both the Binghamton wrestling team and the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) are entering a new chapter, as the league announced Wednesday that it is introducing two new divisions.

Starting with the current 2024-25 season, the conference's 12 members will be split up into the Independence and Patriot divisions. The teams will compete against each other for a divisional championship throughout the year. In 2025-26, the league will launch a full divisional dual meet schedule.

Binghamton will compete in the Independence Division. Joining the Bearcats in the division are Drexel, Franklin & Marshall, Hofstra, LIU, Morgan State and Sacred Heart. The Patriot Division will include American, Army West Point, Bucknell, Lehigh and Navy.

"Creating two divisions within the EIWA provides the opportunity for member teams to establish dual meet consistency and create exciting rivalries that our fans can count on seeing year in and year out," said Binghamton Head Wrestling Coach and EIWA Coaches Association President Kyle Borshoff. "Creating the Independence and Patriot divisions allows us to highlight the excitement that surrounds the dual meet portion of our season, as all of our teams work to establish themselves as divisional champions."

The first time Binghamton will wrestle a team in the Independence Division will be its dual against LIU on Sunday, Dec. 15. The Bearcats will then wrestle the remaining five teams in the division throughout the months of January and February. Binghamton will first host Hofstra on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. A couple of weeks after that, the Bearcats will compete at both Franklin & Marshall and Drexel on Saturday Jan. 18 at noon and 6 p.m. respectively. Finally, Binghamton will travel to Maryland to wrestle at Morgan State on Friday Feb. 7 at 6 p.m., before hosting Sacred Heart on Sunday Feb.9 at 2 p.m.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 24, with one group competing at Army West Point's Black Knight Invitational and another at Cornell's Big Red Invitational.
