Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport wrestling team traveled to SUNY Oneonta where they competed in the New York State Collegiate Championship and had a great day placing 2nd out of 20 teams with 224 points.
Kiam Coleman had a strong match taking first in the 174lb division contributing 22.5 points for the team. Coleman took the win in his first match by fall just 2:26 into the match. Coleman then won by fall in quarterfinals, by major decision in semifinals and competed for firstt where he won by tech fall over Christopher Reddy (Ithaca).
Taking second in the 133 division was Matthew Reehil where he took the win by tech fall in the Champ. Round 2. Friel then won by fall in the quarterfinals, won by decision in the semifinals, and fell to Trevor Cortright (Utica) by fall in the first-place match.
At 284, Luke Coffin placed third in his matchup earning 16.5 points for the Golden Eagles. Coffin fell to Dylan Cogswell (Oswego) in the Quarterfinals but then received a bye and moved on to Cons. Round 3 where he won by fall, then won again by fall in the Cons. Semifinals. In the 3rd place match Coffin won by fall over Cogswell of Oswego at 6:40 into the match.
Dylan Levine (125) took fourth in his match and earned 16 points at the end of the day. Levine won by fall twice and once by decision to make it to the Cons. Semi round where he won by fall over Xavier DeJesus Remchuck of Utica at 3:22 into the match. In the 3rd place match Levine fell to Jacob Deysher (RIT) with a 6-3 decision.
Dylan Nolan placed fifth in the 141-division scoring 15 points for the team after winning by fall twice making it to the semifinals where he fell to Jackson Maby (Oneonta) at 2:25 into the match. In the fifth-place match, Nolan won by fall over Ryan Parton of Jamestown Community College at just 0:50 in.
Jaden Friel (Open 141) took second and scored 15 points in just three rounds. Friel went into the quarterfinals where he won by fall going into the semifinals where he won by a major decision of 15-3. In the first-place match, took second by injury default 0:52 into the match.
In the open 285 match, Nick Franco took second scoring 15 points for the Green and Gold taking the win by fall in the quarterfinals, the win by major decision in the semifinals which brought him to the first-place match. Franco fell to Reid Garrison (Merchant Marine) by tech fall.
Jonathan Guyette took sixth in the 133lb division earning 14.5 points on the day. In the cons. Round 2-5, Guyette won by fall and in the cons. Semi. Guyette fell to Lawrence Liss of RIT by fall. In the fifth-place match, Ariel Waldman of Oneonta won by no contest over Guyette.
Simon Lingle placed fourth on the day scoring 12 points for the team in the open 197 division where he won by fall and by forfeit in the cons. Round 1 and the cons. Semi's. in the third-place match, Anthony Cascen (Oswego) won by a 5-2 decision over Lingle.
In the open 125 division, Liam Bullock took fourth earning 11 points. Bullock won by major decision in the quarterfinals but took the fall in the semifinals by major decision. In the Cons. Semi's, Bullock won by tech fall and fell to Xavier Diaz (Unattached) by major decision in the third-place match.
Marquis Larmond (Open 165) placed fourth and put up 11 points for the team. In the quarterfinals, Larmond won by decision and fell in the quarterfinals by major decision. In the cons. Semi's, Larmond won by tech fall and in the third-place match, Arvin Khosravy (Army Prep) won by tech fall.
Placing sixth in the Open 174 was Gavin McLaughlin with 7 points on the day. McLaughlin won by tech fall in the quarterfinals after receiving a bye, then fell in the semifinals by a 5-4 decision. In the fifth-place match, Kyle Keefe (Jamestown CC Unattached) took the win by forfeit.
Max Morrison's place was unknown in the 157lb division which earned him 6.5 points. Morrison won by fall in the Champ. Round 1 and 2 and fell in the quarterfinals. Morrison took the win in Cons. Round 4 but fell to Carter Tadusz of RIT in Round 5.
Spencer Maja's place was also unknown earning 5.5 points for the team in the 149lb division. Maja won by fall in the Champ First round and taking the fall in the second round. In cons. Round 2, Maja won by fall just 2:03 into the match while in Round 3, Steven Ventricelli (Oswego) won be fall 5:58 in.
In the 141 division, Lucas Cortazar's place was unknown bringing in 5.5 points for Brockport. Cortazar won by fall in Cons. Round 2 and 3 and fell in round 4 to Ryan Parton of Jamestown CC by a 13-10 decision.
Travis Robinson-Becker (184) took sixth place earning 5 points where after taking a loss in the quarterfinals, Robinson-Becker won by decision in cons. Round 3 and fell in Cons. Semi's. In the fifth-place match, Hadi Rehman (Hunter) won by fall.
At 174, Elijah Bonet's place was unknown while bringing in 5 points for the Golden Eagles. Bonnet won by decision in the Champ Round 1 but fell in Round 2. Bonet went on to win by fall and major decision in Cons. Round 2-3 and fell to Sean Haas of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Austin Boff's (157) place was also unknown while earning 5 team points. Boff won by fall, by decision and by major decision in the Champ Round 1 and the Cons. Round 2-3. Boff fell to Will Burnell of Oswego in Cons. Round 4.
Dominick Parente's place was unknown in the 157-division bringing in 4 points for Brockport. Parente won by tech fall in Cons. Round 1 and 2 where in Round 3, Ocean Rados (Oneonta) won by tech fall.
Kevin Regan (165) took a win by decision in the Champ. Round 1 and moved onto Cons. Round where he won by tech fall and decision in 2 and 3 and fell to Nick Bronzi in Round 4 earning 3.5 points.
Christopher Stalzer brought in 3 points in the 141lb division making it to the quarterfinals by a win by major decision. Santiago Pelaez of Nassau CC won by fall in the quarterfinals 4:49 into the match.
In the 157 division, Brandon Drummond earned 3 points after taking a win by tech fall in Champ. Round 1 and another win by decision in Cons. Round 2. Austin Boff of Brockport won by major decision in Cons. Round 3.
Jason Downer (165) brought in 2.5 points on the day after a win by fall in Cons. Round 2 at 1:27 into the match. Joe Cicco of Niagara County CC won by fall in Cons. Round 3.
Gus Harmon (133) added 1 point for the team after a win by tech fall in Champ Round 2. Khol Kalfass (174) also contributed 1 point for Brockport with a win by a 12-8 decision in the Champ. First Round. Adding .5 points to the team's total for the day was Samuel Zeigler (157) after a major 12-5 decision in Cons. Round 1.
