ONEONTA, N.Y. –RIT sophomore Josh Lanka (285 lb.) won the Freshman/Sophomore Division and first year Quincy Bonville (197 lb.) placed second in the Freshman/Sophomore Division to lead the Tigers to a seventh-place finish at the NYS Collegiate Championship, Saturday.
After an opening round bye, Lanka defeated Dane Henry, 4-1 in the quarterfinals. He was a 4-1 winner over Dylan Cogswell in the semifinals and beat Charlie Turner with a fall 34 seconds into the championship bout.
After a bye, Bonville pinned Noah Foster at 3:35 in the quarterfinals. He pinned Jonathan Bedoya at 1:05 in the semifinals before a 6-3 loss to Dustin Koskinen-Falls in the finals.
Sophomore Jacob Deysher placed third in the 125 lb. Freshman/Sophomore Division. After a bye, Deysher defeated Tristan Monahan with a 17-1 technical fall in his opening match. He beat Tristan Hinchcliff with an 18-8 major decision in the quarterfinals before a 19-4 loss to Cameron Hinchcliff in the semifinals. Deysher defeated Cristian Medina 7-1 in the consolation semifinals and beat Dylan Levine 6-3 in the third-place match.
First year Lawrence Liss placed third in the 133 lb. Freshman/Sophomore Division. Liss defeated Shane Dobbins with a fall at 6:36 in his opening bout and pinned Kendricks Pellicci in the quarterfinals. Liss lost 8-7 to Trevor Cortright in the semifinals but beat Jonathan Guyette with a fall at 2:09 in the consolation semifinals before a no-contest victory over Shane Dobbins to take third place.
First year Luke Pires placed third in the 141 lb. Freshman/Sophomore Division. After a bye, Pires lost 13-4 to Christophe Statzer in his opening match. He took down Charles Caputo with a fall in the consolation round and advanced after a forfeit by Brandon Ribeiro. Pires pinned Dylan Nolan in the consolation semifinals and pinned Santiago Palaez in the third-place match.
First year Kyle Jacobs placed third in the 174 lb. Freshman/Sophomore Division. Jacobs defeated Caleb Hutchins with a fall at 2:40 in his opening bout. He was a 13-3 winner over Sean Haas in the quarterfinals before a loss to Christopher Reddy in the semifinals. Jacobs beat Matthew Klein 6-1 and pinned Aali Khawaja in the third-place match.
First year Ronald Dietz placed fourth in the 184 lb. Freshman/Sophomore Division, junior Dara Heydarpour finished fifth in the 149 lb. Open Division and senior Matthew Grant placed sixth in the 149 lb. Open Division.
