Bulls Drop Dual at #8 Cornell

NEWS

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team faced their third straight nationally ranked program and toughest test yet, going up against eighth-ranked Cornell at Barton Hall on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls dropped the dual 37-0.

While the Bulls didn't win a match, they did show fight and had their chances in some of the bouts.

In the 157 match, Kaleb Burgess took command early against Nate Wade with a takedown in the opening minute and then rode Wade out for the rest of the first period.

Burgess was in command for nearly the entire match until Wade got a takedown and back points, late in the third period, to escape with the win.

Jack MacDonald had a strong showing in his first career dual at heavyweight. The freshman from Orchard Park dropped a 2-0 decision to Aiden Compton. MacDonald appeared to get a takedown in the second period, but it was called out of bounds, changing the complexion of the match.

At 141, Sam Ewing got a first-period takedown over 14th-ranked Ethan Fernandez and was tied, 4-4, after the first. But Fernandez was able to pull away for the 12-5 decision.

The Bulls will remain in Ithaca and compete at the Big Red Invitational on Sunday.
