ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 10 Cornell wrestling team dropped its second home dual to No. 8 North Carolina State 18-20 on Sunday afternoon at Newman Arena in Bartels Hall.
No. 2 Meyer Shapiro returned to the mat for the Big Red with an 18-3 victory over No.10 Ed Scott that included 4:33 minutes of riding time and earned six team points. Shapiro opened the 157lb bout with two takedowns to get out to an early lead of 6-2 before Scott was disqualified in the third period for stalling violations.
No. 5 Julian Ramirez and No. 9 Chris Foca made their season debuts, both coming away with a win. Rameriz claimed a takedown over No.32 Derek Fields with 10 seconds left in the first period then added an escape to take his 165lb match 4-1. Foca finished off the dual in the 184-weight class for Cornell with a 6-2 win over No. 13 Dylan Fishback. He started his bout with a takedown and added an escape and stall points in the second period then held his dominance in the third to earn his sixth point with riding time.
Josh Saunders and Ethan Fernandez also added points to the Big Red's total with decision wins.
