Bearcats will wrestle Maryland, Columbia and Lock Haven on Sunday
VESTAL, N.Y. – With the calendar now set on 2025, the Binghamton wrestling team returns to the mat for its first competition of the new year at Journeymen Wrestling's Armbar. The Bearcats will wrestle Maryland, Columbia and Lock Haven Sunday at the Impact Athletic Center in Clifton Park, N.Y.
Binghamton last competed in another Journeymen event at the Collegiate Duals on Dec. 22 in Nashville, Tenn. The Bearcats were defeated by No. 1 Penn State 52-0, No. 16 Missouri 19-15 and No. 19 Little Rock 27-16. Both Brevin Cassella and Micah Roes earned a ranked win that day, with Roes defeating No. 32 Kade Moore of Missouri 7-4. Cassella, meanwhile, shut out No. 30 Tyler Brennan of Little Rock 4-0. Additionally, Cory Day pinned Little Rock's Keith Miley, bringing his season total for falls up to a team-leading six.

Maryland Notes
The Terrapins fell out of the top 25 in the latest NWCA Division I Men's Coaches Poll after previously being ranked No. 24. In its last competition at the Rider Quad on Dec. 20, Maryland was defeated by No. 18 Pittsburgh 25-12, Rider 18-17 and No. 14 South Dakota State 27-7.
Maryland won its previous four duals before the Rider Quad, defeating Kent State 29-10, Bucknell 26-11, American 38- -1 and Morgan State 43-3.
The Terps have five wrestlers who qualified for the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Braxton Brown, Kal Miller, Ethen Miller, Jaxon Smith and Seth Nevills. Both Ethen Miller and Nevills won an individual championship at Missouri's Tiger Style Invite in November.
Lock Haven Notes
The Bald Eagles are 2-4 in dual competition this season, with victories against Bloomsburg (48-0) and Wisconsin (26-17). All four of their losses have come against ranked opponents, with Lock Haven falling to No. 17 Rutgers 34-6, No. 13 Iowa State 30-6, No. 5 Ohio State 36-6 and No. 25 North Carolina 37-3.
Two-time All-American Anthony Noto has reached the podium at nationals each of the last two seasons, finishing third in 2024 and fourth in 2023. Noto is ranked as high as No. 13 in the FloWrestling poll at 133 lbs.
In the four tournaments it has competed at this season, Lock Haven has had at least one individual champion at three of them. Wyatt Henson won the Princeton Open at 141 lbs., to begin the season back in November. Later that month, Noto, Avery Bassett, Colin Fegley and Tucker Hogan each took first at the PRTC Keystone Classic. Lastly, Gable Strickland won Lock Haven's home event, the Mat-Town Open I, competing unattached at 133 lbs.
Columbia Notes
This is the first time Binghamton has faced an Ivy League program in a dual since all six teams in the conference left the EIWA to form their own postseason wrestling tournament before the start of this season.
The Lions have won two of their four duals this season, defeating Cleveland State 27-15 and Hofstra 32-10, while falling to No. 9 Michigan 28-9 and Indiana 23-21.
Columbia put seven wrestlers on the podium at Army's Black Knight Invitational, ultimately finishing fourth as a team in the process. Richard Fedalen, who ranks No. 31 in the InterMat poll at 149 lbs., had the best individual finish at the tournament by placing third.
