ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's wrestling team hosted both Oswego State and Nassau Community College for its first action of 2025 in a pair of duals. The Bombers impressed all afternoon long as they defeated Oswego 34-10 and were nearly able to shutout Nassau as they defeated the Lions by a score of 45-6.

Wrestling got underway at 125 lbs. with Tomah Gummow earning an early takedown within the first 20 seconds of the match taking the early 3-0 lead over Matt Dougherty. He scored another three decisive takedowns to go up 12-3 at the conclusion of the first round. Up 11-0, the Bombers next saw Isaias Torres battle Michael Santore and it was all Torres quickly earning an 8-0 advantage entering the third round where he eventually was able to win via a 9-1 major decision.
At 149 lbs. it was a tight battle between Oswego's Steven Ventricelli and Will Bentrim with the only point scored through the first two rounds being an escape by the Laker. Action picked up with Ventricelli earning a takedown, but Bentrim was able to reverse to score as he eventually fell via a 8-2 decision. The Lakers clawed their way back in the dual with Tyler Rossini winning at 157 lbs. that made it 15-7. Max Casiano was aggressive early and was rewarded with two early takedowns as he was all over David Hammerle and carried a 6-1 lead into the second period. He continued to score and dominate, eventually winning via a 17-3 major decision. Jackson Gray was his usual self and earned the fall over Aaron Fredenburg and at 184 lbs., Xavier Pommells was dominant scoring all across the mat before pinning Avery Canzano in 2:48. The final IC win was captured by Charlie Turner who was able to defeat Dylan Cogswell in a 2-0 decision.

It was a competitive bout between Tomah Gummow and Joseph Ramirez as they traded explosive shots across the first two periods as Ramirez led 6-4. Gummow earned an early escape and a takedown to regain the lead at 8-4 as he eventually scored the 11-7 decision. It was also competitive at 133 lbs. between Isaias Torres and Shane Dobbins as Torres earned a big-time near fall in the middle of the second that gave him the 10-8. The third began with Torres on the bottom and leading 13-8 as he eventually won via a 14-10 decision. Matt Haycook was able to keep the shutout alive for the Bombers as he pinned Santiago Palaez in 2:03. Will Bentrim also earned a fall pinning his Nassau opponent in 1:06.
Wrestling at 157 lbs., Brian Bienus also earned a pin (2:06) as he earned the fall over Ibrahim Khan as Ithaca built a 24-0 team score. Max Casiano was defeated by Joseph Mattei and Xavier Pommells followed it up, pinning his opponent in under a minute. Ryan Galka took his shot and scored taking down Sabih Noman within the first round to build a 9-1 lead. Galka outwrestled his opponent and eventually scored a 18-2 technical fall, which furthered Ithaca's team lead to 41-6. In the final bout of the afternoon, Charlie Turner scored on three takedowns and led 9-2 after the first period. Turner held on to capture the win in a 14-6 major decision.
Next up, the Bombers will travel to Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. to compete in the Budd Whitehill National Duals that will take place on January 10-11.
