After using regular season records as the determining factor for who would represent Section VII in the New York high school Team Duals wrestling championship, the Section decided to add a new format. That format would be the winner of a single-day tournament to represent Section VII at the state level.
Peru High School entered the night as the No. 1 seed out of five teams in the inaugural sectional championship. They finished the night as the top squad, claiming the first-ever Section VII duals team championship title.
