Midlakes girls wrestling wins first home dual meet

NEWS

Nick Hargarther didn’t say much post-match Thursday night. The Midlakes girls wrestling assistant coach didn’t say much during the last two bouts of the night either.

He couldn’t.

The good-natured mountain of a man was at a rare loss for words — holding back a flood of emotions as both a coach and parent. Midlakes girls varsity wrestling coach Jake Taylor was much the same. Then, all the emotions boiled over as the team met in the wrestling room at Midlakes High School, victorious for the first time.

A joyous, monstrous roar bellowed out of the room, followed by a chorus of equally jubilant, youthful cheers.

The Midlakes girls varsity program had won its first dual meet.

The team toppled Alexander/Pembroke/Honeoye Falls-Lima/Byron-Bergen, 37-22.
