Brockport State Clinches 3rd Place Finish at SUNYAC Championships

Brockport, NY – The Wrestling team traveled to Cortland State for the SUNYAC Championships where they clinched a third-place finish earning 134 points on the day.

Marquis Larmond had a day in the 157lb weight class placing 2nd overall and scored 20.5 points. In the Champs round 1, Larmond won by a major decision of 17-7. In Round 2 Larmond won by fall 3 minutes into the matchup. In the quarterfinals and semifinals, he won by tech fall and fall making it to the 1st place match. Tyler Rossini of Oswego won by injury default.

Gavin McLaughlin made his mark at Championships with a 1st place finish scoring 20.5 points. McLaughlin won by fall and tech fall in the champ round 2 and quarterfinals where in semifinals he won by a decision of 10-3. McLaughin had a strong match in the 1st place round winning by major decision of 10-0 over Mason Rappold of Oneonta.

In the 174lb divison, Kiam Coleman brought a strong performance with 20.5 points good for 1st place. Coleman won by tech fall in the champ round 1 and the quarterfinals moving on to the semifinals where he won by a 14-8 decision. In the first-place match Coleman won by fall over Tyler Balent of RIT just 1:52 into the match.

At 125, Liam Bullock earned 20 points for the Golden Eagles after two wins by fall in the champ round 2 and the quarterfinals. Tomah Gummow of Ithaca won by decision in the semifinals. Bullock moved onto the cons semi round where he ton by tech fall and finished in the third-place match with a win by fall 6:15 into the match over Cade Sands (Cortland)

Nick Franco put up 18 points and a 2nd place finish at 285 winning by fall in the champ round 1 and tech fall in the quarter and semifinals. In the 1st place match, Josh Harkless of RIT won by fall 59 seconds into the matchup.

Simon Lingle clinched a 3rd place finish on the day good for 14.5 points for the team. In the cons. Round 2, Lingle won by fall moving on the round 3 where he won by a 15-8 decision. In the semi round, Lingle won by forfeit and finished off in the third-place match with a win by a 3-0 decision over Kevin Arriaza of Oswego.

Jaden Friel put up 13.5 points in the 141lb weight class where he finished in fourth place. Friel won by fall then by major decision in the champ round 2 and the quarterfinals. Friel then moved on to the cons. Semi round where he won by a 14-10 decision. Dom Vinci of Cortland won by fall 4:45 into the match.

Alex Smith contributed 3.5 points to the team's total at 149 winning by decision in the cons round 2 by major decision.

Matthew Reehil also added 3 points on the board at 133 winning by forfeit in the champ round 1.

Max Morrison (165) put up 4 wins in a row in the cons rounds 1-5 and took a win by forfeit in the 5th place match over Matthew Coffey of Oneonta.

At 165, Jason Downer won by fall in the cons rounds 2-3. Jack Pickersgill of Cortland win by fall 2:10 into the match.

Brandon Drummond put up a few points after a win by tech fall of 16-0 over Luke Leshaj of Oneonta.

Jonathan Guyette also put up a win at 133 in the champ round 1 just 2:52 into the match.

In the 149lb weight class, Spencer Maja made it to the cons round 3 with a win by fall over Matt Bonato of Utica.

Austin Boff put up a couple wins at 157 in the champ round 1 by decision, and the cons round 2 by a tech fall of 16-1.

At 125, Dylan Levine won by decision in the champ round 2 by a decision of 10-6.

Elijah Bonet took an early win by a major decision of 12-1 in the 174lb division.

At 141, Gus Harmon won by a 17-11 decision in the cons round 2.

Samuel Zeigler took a win in the cons round 1 by a 5-3 decision over Michael Rosenblum of St. John Fisher.

Up Next – On Sunday, January 26th, the Green and Gold are set to travel to Jamestown Community College for the Jamestown open starting at 9:30am.
