Three St. John Fisher Wrestlers Record Top-Three Finishes At SUNYAC Championships

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Three St. John Fisher University wrestlers placed in the top three of their weight classes on Saturday in the SUNYAC Championships at SUNY Cortland's Lusk Field House.

Junior Derek Bernardino placed second at 133 pounds, while junior Torin Bishop (149) and graduate senior Otto Davidson (165) placed third in their respective weight classes. The Cardinals took seventh as a team.

Cortland and Oneota finished tied atop the team standings with 141 points apiece.

Bernardino pinned Utica's Marco Milankovic and beat Matt Reehil (Brockport) 16-5 by major decision to start his day. He squeaked out a 10-9 decision over Culley Bellino (Cortland) in the semifinal round before falling 7-0 by decision to Trevor Cortright (Utica) in the 133-pound final match.

Bishop lost his first match by fall to Matthew Grant (RIT) before winning all five of his matches on the backside of the bracket. He got a measure of revenge in the third-place match, pinning Grant in 1:24.

Davidson won his first three matches to reach the 165-pound semifinal match, which he dropped 9-6 by decision to Mason Rappold (Oneonta). He beat Matthew Coffey (Oneonta) and Max Casiano (Ithaca) by decision in the consolation bracket to claim third.
