EAST LANSING, MI – The University at Buffalo wrestling team won their first three matches of the day and showed tremendous fight before eventually losing to Michigan State, 25-13, at Jenison Field House on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls got off to a great start as Sam Ewing earned a 6-2 decision over Clayton Jones at 149 in the first match of the day.
Kaleb Burgess followed with his sixth straight dual match win by shutting out Braden Stauffenberg, 5-0, at 157.
Next, Hunter Shaut faced former teammate JayNivison in the 165 match. Shaut earned a 3-2 win in overtime.
Rafael Knapp was up next and took nationally ranked Caesar Garza to the limit. Knapp dropped an 11-10 decision.
At 184, Marcus Petite earned bonus points for the Bulls, defeating Luke Daly by a 14-3 major decision to put UB ahead, 13-3. It was Petite's sixth straight dual match win.
Unfortunately, the Spartans rallied to win the dual, 25-13.
The Bulls will return home to host Bloomsburg and Glenville State next Sunday at Alumni Arena.
