ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – RIT senior Michael Glynn III (149 lb.) and first year Max Watson (157 lb.) each won their weight class to help the No. 18 Tigers to a third-place finish at the D. Kenneth Ober Invitational, Saturday.
Glynn, ranked No. 6 at 149 lb., pinned Anthony Lavish (Shippensburg) at 3:49 in his opening match. He pinned George Pavis (Stevens) at 5:53 before a 17-2 technical fall win over Zachary Turner (Roanoke) in the quarterfinals. Glynn pinned Corey Messick (Roanoke) at 3:58 in the semifinals and was 6-1 winner over Mike Trainor (Shippensburg) in the championship bout.
After a first-round bye, Watson picked up a 17-3 major decision win over Landon Mead (Thiel). He defeated Topher Tryon (Roanoke), 8-6 in the quarterfinals and beat Noah Rice (Messiah) with 4-1 win in overtime in the semifinals. Watson beat Jarrod Pominville (Roanoke) with 4-1 overtime win in the championship bout.
Senior Josh Post placed second at 141 lb. He pinned Jack Doran (York) at 1:16 in his opening match. He pinned Joseph Bodnar (Stevens) at 2:23 before a 15-0 technical fall victory over Alex Choi (Roanoke) in the quarterfinals. Post defeated Dom Vinci (Cortland) 11-2 in the semifinals but lost 4-2 to Ryan Arndt (Delaware Valley) in the finals.
Sophomore Nick Smith placed third at 197 lb. After a first-round bye, Smith beat Quincy Risper (Delaware Valley) with a fall at 4:50. He won an 11-9 decision over Micah Kunkle (Messiah) in the quarterfinals and lost 6-5 to Will Davis (Elizabethtown) in the semifinals. Smith defeated Cam Cavins (Roanoke), 6-5 in the consolation semifinals and beat Diesel Koser (Shippensburg) 5-2 in the third-place match.
Senior Lee Rubin placed fourth at 125 lb., and first year Jack Lamson placed fourth at 165 lb., first year Kenji Walters placed fifth at 133 lb., and sophomore Gabe Scalise placed sixth at 133 lb.
RIT returns to action on Friday (Jan. 31) at St. John Fisher at 7:00 p.m.
