Brockport State Clinches Third at John Summa Invite

Brockport, NY – The wrestling team traveled to Berea, Ohio to compete in the John Summa Invitational where they fought hard and clinched a third place finish out of 13 teams earning 115 points.

At 285, Nick Franco brought the heat with a first-place finish to end out the day scoring 27 points for the Green and Gold. In the Champ Rounds 1 and 2, Franco won by fall in just 28 seconds and 1:35. Franco took two more wins in the Quarterfinals and the Semi Finals moving on to the 1st Place Match where he won by a 10-4 decision.

Liam Bullock had a strong day at 125 taking first place and earning 24.5 points for the team. In the Champ Round 1, Bullock put up a win by fall 1:53 into the match. Bullock then won by tech fall and fall in the Quarterfinal and Semifinal to go on a decided win in the first-place match of 4-2.

At 174, Kiam Coleman had a hard earned fifth place finish earning 16 points for the Golden Eagles. In the Champ Round 2 and the Quarterfinals, Coleman earned two wins by fall at 1:25 and 4:30. Coleman moved on to the 5th Place Match where he won by medical forfeit.

Gavin McLaughlin earned 14 points in the 165lb division and took fifth place after a series of strong performances. In the Champ Round 2, McLaughlin won by fall 4:45 into the matchup. He then moves on to the Cons. Round 4 and 5 taking two wins by decisions. In the 5th Place Match, McLaughlin took the win by a forfeit.

In the 197lb round, Simon Lingle placed fourth while scoring 13.5 points. In the Champ Round 1 and the Quarterfinal round, Lingle took two wins by a 5-2 decision and a 10-7 decision. Lingle then went on to the Cons Semi round where he won by fall 4:42 into the match.

Vandavian Way placed seventh on the day at 165 after two wins by fall in the Cons Rounds 2 and 3 and a tech fall win in the Cons Round 4. Way won by an 11-2 major decision in the 7th Place Match.

In the 174lb weight class, Elijah Bonet placed eighth on the day after taking a win by medical forfeit in the Champ Round 2. Bonet went on to snag another win by fall 3:37 into the matchup.

Alex Smith placed seventh on the day good for 9 points. Smith took the win in the Cons Rounds 2-4 making it to the seventh Place Match where he put up a major decision win of 8-0.

Austin Boff put up 8.5 team points while placing eighth in the 157lb weight class. Boff won by a fall 4:05 into the matchup. Boff then took another win in the Cons. Round 2 by fall at just 1:24.

At 141, Dylan Nolan scored 2.5 points for the team after putting up a win in the Cons Round 2 by fall just 3:12 into the match.

Next Up – The Golden Eagles are set to take on St. John Fisher at home for Senior Day on Friday, February 14th starting at 6pm.
