No. 8 Oneonta State Takes Down RIT on Senior Day, Ties Program’s Single Season Dual Wins Record

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The No. 8 Oneonta wrestling team capped off the regular season with a 24-20 dual victory over RIT Saturday afternoon in Chase gymnasium. The win gave the Red Dragons a final record of 16-5 in duals and tied the 2004-05 team's program record for most dual wins in a single season. The Tigers dropped to 6-6 this season.

Oneonta won six matches with four decisions, a fall and a forfeit. Junior Carson LiCastri (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow High School) secured the victory for the Red Dragons with a first-round fall over Ronald Dietz at 2:06. Junior Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT/) won his 184 match by forfeit.

Senior Danny Poggi (West Islip, NY/West Islip) is third in Region 2 at 133 lbs. and he defeated Jacob Deysher in an 8-1 decision. Freshman Jackson Maby (Susquehanna, PA/Susquehanna Community), who is ranked fourth in Region 2 at 141 lbs., beat Josh Post, Region 2's sixth ranked 141, in a 4-2 decision.

Sophomore Mason Rappold (/) is ranked eighth in Region 2 at 165 lbs., and he upended Jack Lamson, who is third in the region, in an 11-5 decision. Senior Kenneth Sauer (Franklin, MA./Franklin), ranked sixth in Region 2 at 174 lbs., picked up a 7-4 decision over Tyler Balent, the eighth ranked wrestler in the region.

Before the start of the match, Oneonta recognized the careers of three Red Dragons for Senior Day. Those honored were Danny Poggi (West Islip, NY/West Islip), Kenneth Sauer (Franklin, MA./Franklin), and Joel Zea-Marino (Queens, NY/Thomas Edison).

The Red Dragons will send 10 wrestlers to Lycoming College on Saturday, March 1 and 2, for the two-day NCAA Mideast Regional event.
