ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College wrestling team hosted St. John Fisher University for the final dual of the 2024-25 season on Wednesday evening as the Bombers also celebrated Senior Day where they honored Matt Haycook, Wenchard Pierre-Louis and Jackson Gray. The Bombers delivered a dominant performance, shutting out the Cardinals 42-0 and improving their dual record to 16-2.
125-lbs: First year Tomah Gummow faced Daniel Parkulo. Gummow earned the first three points with one minute remaining in the first round and carried the 3-0 advantage into the second round. He quickly escaped at the start of the second, earning another point, and soon secured another takedown. Gummow held on to earn an 11-0 victory via major decision.
133-lbs: Junior returning All-American, Isaias Torres took on Derek Bernardino. Torres defended a potential leg sweep and scored the first three points with a takedown. He took down Bernardino again just before time expired in the first. Bernardino escaped to begin the second, but Torres caught him with a double leg takedown, pushing his lead to 9-2. Torres eventually won the match 14-3 via major decision.
141-lbs: Senior Matt Haycook squared off against Trevor Bishop. Haycook had a quick takedown to start the period, earning an early 3-1 lead. Bishop started on bottom to open the second, quickly made it 3-2 with an escape, but Haycook scored again. Going into the third, Haycook led 6-3 and evaded late-period attacks to win in an 8-6 decision.
149-lbs: Senior Wenchard Pierre-Louis wasted little time taking down Torin Bishop, carrying a 6-2 advantage into the second. He earned another takedown, grounding his opponent to put three more points on the board. Pierre-Louis held on for a 9-4 decision.
157-lbs: Junior Brian Bienus faced Paul Lichter. Bienus scored the first three points with an incredible reversal. Lichter escaped and scored to lead 4-3 headed into the second. No further scoring occurred until the third, where Bienus electrified the crowd with a near fall to go up 7-4. Brian Bienus held on during the closing seconds to earn a 7-5 decision.
165-lbs: Junior Konrad Parker squared off against the Cardinals Jeremy Devine. Parker grounded his opponent after taking out his left leg, going up 6-1 into the second. He used an impressive leg sweep to ground his opponent again and scored three more points. Parker continued to score at ease and earned a 19-4 victory via technical fall.
174-lbs: Senior Jackson Gray scored early and looked for a pin, instead scoring a near fall to go up 7-0 against Trevor Sheehan. With less than 10 seconds left in the first period, Gray picked up the pin to earn another Bomber victory.
184-lbs: Senior Xavier Pommells shot on an early single leg takedown against Charlie Rosner. Pommells earned a near fall shortly after, putting him up 10-1 at the end of the first period. He continued to dominate and eventually earned the pin in the second period with 32 seconds remaining.
197-lbs: Senior Ryan Galka scored two straight takedowns within the first 30 seconds against Nathan Coon. Galka continued to dominate the match and led 16-8 headed into the second. He eventually earned a 28-12 victory via technical fall.
285-lbs: Sophomore Charlie Turner took on Jackson Burns in the final bout of the evening. The first period passed without score. Turner began the second with two points from an early reversal. Burns tied the score in the third period, but Turner earned an escape point to maintain his lead. Turner held on to earn a 3-2 decision to close out the night.
With an overall victory of 42-0, the Bombers earned their second-straight shutout and sixth-straight victory at home, concluding their dual meet season with a record of 16-2.
