PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Freshman Kaden Potter led the St. John Fisher wrestling team with a first-place finish at 174 pounds on Sunday in the Cardinal Invite at Fisher's Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Athletics Center.
Nine of the Cardinals' 15 participants placed in the event, which featured wrestlers from six other teams, including SUNY Brockport, SUNY Cortland, RIT, Ithaca and Penn State Behrend. Four Fisher wrestlers placed in the top four in their respective weight classes.
Potter, who had a first-round bye, beat Ithaca's Aslanbek Sharipov 21-6 by technical fall in the semifinals. He took down Ithaca's John Hecht 8-5 by decision in the 174-pound first-place bout.
Junior Carl Santariello (125 pounds) and graduate senior Otto Davidson (165 pounds) battled for third-place finishes. Davidson, in his final collegiate match, pinned Ithaca's Max Casiano in 4:25.
Freshman Xander Burke (fifth place, 133 pounds), freshman Shay Sinitiere (fifth place, 141 pounds), sophomore Michael Rosenblum (sixth place, 157 pounds), freshman Judson Ferris (fourth place, 197 pounds), junior Nathan Coon (fifth place, 197 pounds) and junior Nathan Rourke (sixth place, 285 pounds) were the Cardinals' other place finishers.
