BIGGER PICTURE: Peyton's place? On top of the podium

NEWS

ALBANY — Girls wrestling is currently the fastest-growing high school sport in the country. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, the scholastic girls wrestling community grew to a record-breaking 65,000 participants in 2023.

In New York, 2,104 girls were certified to compete this year. Compare that to the 563 that wrestled in 2022.

So, it should be no surprise that the inaugural New York State girls wrestling championships were held this year, taking place Thursday in Albany.

Dundee sophomore grappler Peyton Mullin was one of the shining stars. She took home the top prize in the 235-pound weight class.
