Niagara County sent nine wrestlers to the first sanctioned NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championships, and four girls stood on the podium. Two of the three girls from Lockport placed in the top six, while two of Niagara Wheatfield’s six qualifiers did the same.

NW’s Gaby Barone, who had won each of her matches since she began wrestling for the Falcons in seventh grade, placed fourth at 114 pounds. She was a back-to-back state champion at 100 during her seventh- and eighth-grade seasons.
