Ithaca Men's Wrestling Finishes Second at the NCAA Region II Qualifier; Five Bombers Punch Their Ticket to Nationals

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Five Ithaca College wrestlers – first year 125 lbs. Tomah Gummow, junior 133 lbs. Isaias Torres, 165 lbs. junior Konrad Parker, senior 174-pounder Jackson Gray and Xavier Pommells each punched their respective tickets to nationals on Sunday afternoon highlighting the second day of the NCAA Division III Region II Qualifier held at the Keiper Recreation Center at Lycoming College.

Out of the 19-team field, Stevens Institute of Technology won the team title with 153 points, while Ithaca finished second, totaling 115.5 team points. The Bombers had an excellent semifinal showing, sending three wrestlers to the championship finals heading into the medal round, which guaranteed each of them qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship. Ithaca head coach Marty Nichols also added another accolade to his coaching career as he was named the Regional Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the tournament.

125 lbs.: Tomah Gummow, NCAA Championship Qualifier via Third Place Finish
Gummow, capped off an impressive debut in his first collegiate regional by securing third and battling back through the consolation bracket. He dropped his morning matchup against a familiar face in RIT's Lee Rubin, who won in a 9-6 decision. Gummow then scored all across that mat as he downed Dominic Terracciano (New Jersey City) via 16-2 major decision. The talented first-year would then win his third-place bout over Centenary's Jack Thode defeating him in a 4-1 decision. Gummow will go to nationals with a 33-13 overall record.

133 lbs.: Isaias Torres, NCAA Championship Qualifier via Second Place Finish
Returning All-American Isaias Torres officially punched his ticket to nationals in Providence, Rhode Island with his semifinal victory over Michael Santore (Oswego State). Torres who has faced the Laker several times over his collegiate career got the best of him again with an 8-1 decision. The junior would medically forfeit his championship bout but still secured second place in the 133 lbs. bracket.

149 lbs.: Wenchard Pierre-Louis, Sixth Place Finisher
In arguably the toughest bracket of this year's 2025 NCAA Division III Region II regional, Wenchard Pierre-Louis began his Sunday battling back through consolation bracket. The talented senior scored a 10-0 major decision over Jayden Medina (Hunter) that setup his next bout against SUNY Oneonta's Avery Leonard. It ended up being a tight matchup between the two competitors with Pierre-Louis coming out on the losing end of a 9-3 decision. He ended up medially forfeiting, and concludes his collegiate career as the sixth-place finisher at the Region II qualifying tournament.

157 lbs.: Brian Bienus, Eighth Place Finisher
Competing in his first career regional, Bienus ended up as the eighth-place finisher and dropped both of his bouts on Sunday. He was held scoreless (7-0) in his consolation's matchup against St. John Fisher's Paul Lichter and saw his day come to and end at the hands of SUNY Oneonta's Ryley Monica. Monica would capitalize on his shots in the 6-1 decision over Bienus.

165 lbs.: Konrad Parker, NCAA Championship Qualifier via Second Place Finisher
Parker earned his first career NCAA Championship qualification and guaranteed himself that by winning in the semis as he defeated Carter Davis (4-1) from Penn College of Technology.

Konrad Parker would then lose just his fourth match of the season as Stevens' Christopher Stathopoulos got the best of him in the 165 lbs. championship, winning via a 14-7 decision.

174 lbs.: Jackson Gray, NCAA Championship Qualifier via First Place Finisher
The overall MVP across two-days for the Bombers was Jackson Gray as he was the teams top overall point scorer who collected 24 in a 4-0 weekend. In the semis, usually a winner via fall, Gray earned the win over Oneonta's Kenny Sauer in a 18-6 tech fall. The senior would then defeat Lycoming's Nolen Zeigler winning via a 10-6 decision. Gray will enter the NCAA Division III Championships, winner of his last 11-straight bouts and will look to earn his first career All-American status.

184 lbs.: Xavier Pommells, NCAA Championship Qualifier via Second Place Finisher
Pommells electrified the Bombers supporters that were in attendance at the Keiper Recreation Center as he earned his NCAA qualification in his first bout of the afternoon against Lycoming's Eli Crum. Pommells was able to earn the fall at 4:51 and wound up securing a second-place overall finish. In the championship matchup against Oneonta's Jack Ryan, it was the Red Dragon who scored the lone takedown and won in a 3-1 decsion.

The Bombers will enter the final chapter of their season two weeks from now when they will send Isaias Torres, Tomah Gummow, Jackson Gray, Konrad Parker and Xavier Pommells to nationals, which take place in Providence, R.I. for the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships beginning on Friday, March 14-15. Starting times are slated for 12 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
