TRENTON, NJ – The Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships concluded on Saturday in Trenton, NJ and three Bulls earned spots on the podium. Hunter Shaut took fourth at 165, Kaleb Burgess took fifth at 157 and Marcus Petite took sixth at 184.
Shaut won his consolation quarterfinal match by beating Kent State's Ethan Barr, 9-5. He then won his next match by forfeit to advance to the third-place match.
Shaut faced Lock Haven's Caden Dobbins in the third-place match and got a takedown in the third period to force overtime. However, Dobbins got a takedown midway through OT, to earn the sudden victory. Shaut had to settle for fourth, his best finish at the MAC Championships.
Kaleb Burgess faced Ohio's Logan Caravatas in the consolation quarterfinals and earned a hard-fought 1-0 decision to advance. However, in the consolation semifinals, he lost a 7-3 decision to Northern Illinois' Landen Johnson.
In the fifth-place match, Burgess earned a 2-1 decision over SIUE's Eric Almarinez to earn his first spot on the podium.
Marcus Petite's first match of the day was in the consolation semifinals. It was a tight match throughout and it went to overtime tied, 1-1. Unfortunately, Lock Haven's Colin Fegley got a sudden victory takedown to earn the win.
Petite then dropped a 4-1 decision to Ohio's Jeremy Olszko in the fifth-place match.
Max Elton (125), Andy Lucinsky (141) and Lonnell Pabon (197) also competed on Saturday but lost their opening matches and were eliminated.
The Bulls finished the MAC Championships in ninth place.
