CORALVILLE, Iowa, - Making their way out to the 2025 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships, the D'Youville University women's wrestling team's hopes for a national champion came to an end.
Madison Wellen (East Berlin, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) went 1-2 in the 131-pound weight class. Starting out the day, Wellen fell to Jamie Lawell of Fort Hays State University via tech fall. In the consolation bracket, Wellen earned the 14-6 decision victory over Samantha Larios of Emmanuel University. Moving onto the consolation round two, Wellen was downed by Shely Kemp of William Jewell College by a tech fall.
Zoe Kip (Liberty, N.Y./Liberty) was the other Saints to pick up a win, going 1-2 on the day as well in the 160-pound weight class. Kip started her day falling to Lene McCrackin of Simon Fraser University via fall. Moving onto the consolation bracket, Kip earned the medical forfeit victory over Nylease Yzagere of William Jewell College. Kip's day ended on the consolation second round, falling to Love Daley of Sacred Heart University via fall.
Other wrestlers that competed for the Saints were Alessandra Elliott (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) at 131-pounds, Saniyah Ward (The Colony, Texas/The Colony) at 145-pounds, and Mackenzie Laforest (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) at 207-pounds.
As of now, the Saints sit tied for 43rd out of 64 institutions with three points.
