HOW IT HAPPENED:
Looking to build off momentum from a 3-1 record on the first day of competition, Ragan Retell secured her All-American status with a decision over Piper Cadden from Fort Hays State in the consolation fourth round.
Retell trailed 8-2 in the second period and secured the final six points of the bout to knot the score 8-8 and advance via criteria, as she scored the last points against Cadden.
Retell dropped her consolation fifth-round bout against Emmily Patneaud from Iowa after Patneaud recorded a pin at the 4:25 mark of the bout. The seventh-place match would be a rematch of the Region I finals between Retell and Jaclyn Dehney from New England College. Dehney would win the bout after securing a pin in the second period.
Retell had the second-largest seed-place differential, as she entered the tournament seeded 30th at 131 pounds and finished eighth.
Now the first two-time All-American in program history, Zoey Lints rattled off three consecutive wins to advance to the third-place match for the Soaring Eagles.
Lints would get a pin against Emily Medford in the consolation fourth round, followed by another pin over Savannah Gomez from McKendree in the fifth round.
In the consolation semifinals, Lints matched up against returning national semifinalist Aine Drury, who also pinned Lints to open the season at the ESU Open. Lints recorded her fourth pin of the tournament in 1:13 to defeat Drury and advance to the third-place match.
Lints would get a rematch against Reese Larramendy from Iowa after Larramendy knocked Lints out of the championship bracket in the quarterfinals on Friday. Both wrestlers showed respect for their talents and approach as Lints went the distance in the bout, with Larramendy recording a 10-3 decision.
Lints finished fourth in the tournament for "Most Pins Least Time," as she needed just 7:17 to complete her four pins.
