Ithaca wrestling legend Orlando Turco dies at age 93

NEWS

Orlando Turco Obituary

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Orlando Turco, who passed away peacefully at home at the age of 93.

A proud graduate of Cornell University, Orlando was a lifelong educator and mentor. He taught at Ithaca High School, where the gymnasium now bears his name—a tribute to the profound and lasting impact he had on generations of students. His dedication to education was matched by his passion for wrestling. As captain of Cornell’s wrestling team and for decades as a coach, he earned a place in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. His love for the sport and commitment to his athletes shaped countless lives and built a legacy of excellence, discipline, and integrity. In addition to his work in education and athletics, Orlando was a trusted and respected real estate broker who served the Ithaca community with honesty and care.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sharon Turco, and his daughter, Tami Nedrow. He is survived by his children: Tari Reeves (and her husband, Mark Reeves), David Turco, Doug Turco, Andy Turco, and Scott Turco; his grandchildren: Patrick Turco, Megan Turco, Lindsay Turco, Erica Turco, and Paul Turco; his great-grandchildren: Shea Turco and Lily Turco; and his nieces & nephews: Donna Turco Bugliari, Judy Turco, Michael Turco, Steve Turco and Barbara Turco. His family was his greatest pride, and his memory will live on in their hearts.

Calling hours for Orlando will be held on Wednesday, November 5th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca, NY. A Mass will follow on Thursday, November 6th, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. All who knew and loved Orlando are warmly invited to join in honoring and celebrating a life well lived.

Forever remembered. Deeply missed.
