Colton Havens Chosen as SUNYAC Wrestling Rookie of the Week

NEWS

Cortland freshman Colton Havens (Canisteo/Canisteo-Greenwood) has been chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Wrestling Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 2.

Havens posted a 6-0 record to claim individual title at 157 pounds in his first collegiate meet at the King's College (Pa.) Ned McGinley Invitational on Saturday. The freshman registered one pin, one technical fall, and two major decisions in his first four matches to advance to the semifinals. He earned a 4-1 decision over Marc Kleyman of Hunter in the semifinals before defeating MJ Turi of King's with a takedown with 58 seconds remaining in the sudden-victory overtime period for a 4-1 scoreline in the finals.

Havens, who was a New York State Champion at Canisteo-Greenwood this past year, is off to an excellent start on the mat as a Red Dragon. The freshman finished high school with a 58-4 record in six years, and will look to carry the momentum off of his 6-0 start for Cortland into this weekend. The Red Dragons travel to Ithaca for the Ithaca Invitational; the two-day meet will be on Friday starting at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m.
