Six Individual Champions Lead Ithaca To Second Place at Season-Opening Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Bombers crowned six weight-class champions and placed second of nine teams at the Ithaca Wrestling Invitational. Ithaca's Derek Brenon was named as the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. The Bombers return to action in two weeks at the New York State Championships at Cornell's Newman Arena.

Brenon won four matches in the 157-pound bracket en route to MOW honors. He scored a 15-0 technical fall, a pin, and two decision wins to win the title. In the final, he scored a 6-0 decision victory over Everet Desilets of Johnson & Wales.

At 125 pounds, Rickey Gomez won two decisions and two major decisions, including a 17-6 major over Tom Casper of Springfield in the finals.

Alex Gomez had two major decisions and a pin to advance to the finals at 133, where he won a 6-4 decision over Derek Adams of Springfield.

Ithaca also won at 149 pounds as Kevin Collins won five bouts on the weekend to take the title. He had two pins, and two decision wins, then won a 3-1 sudden-victory decision over Dylan Foley of Springfield in the finals.

Jules Doliscar had a winning start to his season with four bout victories to finish first at 174. Doliscar pinned his first opponent and won the next two rounds by technical fall. He won an 8-3 decision in the finals over Jerrold Roosa of Thiel.

Shane Bartrum picked up a series of close decisions to claim the 197-pound crown. Bartrum won his first three bouts in sudden-victory overtime decisions. He won the weight-class final 6-2 over Blake McNulty of Johnson & Wales.

Ithaca had seven other place-winners, including a third-place finish for Ricky Dracup at 197.
