ITHACA, N.Y. – First year Ithaca College men's wrestler George McAteer was awarded the SUNYAC Men's Wrestling Rookie of the Week, for the week of November 3-9, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
McAteer had an excellent debut at the Ithaca Invitational finishing second at 133 lbs. as the Bombers won the team title. Seeded No. 16 in the bracket, McAteer took down No. 1 Jack Callahan 6-4 using a pair of takedowns during the first day of competition. He would punch his ticket to the final with another tough 6-4 win over No. 5 seeded Blake Dergham of Pennsylvania College of Technology. With two Bombers in the final, McAteer medically forfeited but was 4-0 on the weekend.
The Bombers won the 42nd Annual Ithaca Invitational this past weekend and will return to action on Saturday, November 15 when they compete in "Shorty" Hitchcock Classic held on the campus of Millersville University.
