SUNY Niagara finished with five champions at the Defend the Lake Open Saturday at Garrett College in Maryland. This marked the Thunderwolves’ second event of the season.
Jaron Barrientos won the 125-pound championship, Vinny Falsetti won at 133, Trevor Copes won at 141, Aidan Gillings won at 149 and Aiden Poe won at 184. SUNY Niagara also finished with two second-place finishes and one fourth-place finish.
Barrientos went 4-0 at 125 with two pins and two wins by decision. Falsetti went 3-0 a 133 with two pins and one win by decision. Copes went 4-0 at 141 with three tech fall victories and a pin. Gillings won all three of his matches at 149 with three pins. Poe won all three matches at 184 with three pins.
Ethan Fletcher finished runner-up at 133 and went 2-1, with a loss to teammate Falsetti in the finals. Joey Cicco finished runner-up at 174 and went 2-1.
Cam Ingram finished fourth at 149. Nick Pawlak (157) and Chris Howatt (285) picked up two wins each and Amari Libertone-Robinson (165) and Dominick Lopez (197) earned one win apiece.
SUNY Niagara continues its season at the state collegiate championships Nov. 22 at Onondaga CC.
