JCC Wrestling Has Solid Showing in Defend the Lake Open

MCHENRY, MD - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) wrestling team made the trip to Garrett College in Maryland for their Defend the Lakes Duals on Friday and Defend the Lake Open on Saturday.

Jamestown's freshman duo of Wyatt Bryman and Evan Leonard has the best showings in the Charm City.

Bryman won both of his bouts, winning his match against Garrett College's Brandon Womack by pin at 1:39. He followed that up with a pin of Paul Mielke of Bergen Community College at 2:01 of their match.

Not to be outdone, Leonard secured a pin against Garrett's Brooks Smith at 2:26. Leonard also secured the second pin against Bergen's Jonathan Arroyo at just 41 seconds into the match.

JCC lost both bouts as a team but had to bounce back quickly with the open just hours away.

The pair had the best showings in the open as well. Bryman finished fourth at 141 pounds, with a 4-2 record. He made it to the third-place match but lost a decision 7-4.

As for Leonard, he found a spot on the podium with a third-place showing at 165 pounds. The freshman finished with a 4-1 record, including four pins. He finished the third-place match with a fall at 1:10 to grab his spot in the top three.

Looking at the rest of the squad: Griffin Williams went 1-2 at 125 pounds, Brad Smith finished 1-2 at 184 pounds, and Joshua Kriger also saw a 1-2 record at 285 pounds.

The Jayhawks now have a couple of weeks off before hitting the mats at Onondaga Community College for the New York State Collegiate Championships on Saturday, November 22nd, at 8:00 AM.
