Men's Wrestling Posts 2-2 Record at Electric City Duals

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Elmira College men's wrestling team traveled to Scranton to compete in their first dual of the season. The Electric City Duals featured Scranton, Keystone, Kean, Pitt Bradford, New Jersey City, Elmira, Bergen, and Rowan. Elmira was seen posting a 2-2 overall record on the day.
SOARING EAGLES FALL TO GOTHIC KNIGHTS, 30-11
Elmira opened their first dual of the day against New Jersey City University, seeing Donavan Smith and Rhojan Monfort record the lone points in their respective weight classes.
Smith (174-weight class) notched a 18-2 tech fall at 3:38 in his match to record five points and put Elmira on the board, 27-5. Monfort (184-weight class) pinned his opponent at 2:48 tallying six points, making the score 27-11.
PURPLE & GOLD BLANKED BY SCRANTON, 50-0
In their second dual of the day, the Purple & Gold went head-to-head with the University of Scranton. The Soaring Eagles forfeited in three different weight classes but were unable to muster any points.
ELMIRA SLIDES PAST KEYSTONE, 36-18
In their third dual of the day, the Soaring Eagles were matched up with Keystone College. Elmira opened with forfeits in the 125, 133, 149, and 157 weight classes to take an early 24-6 advantage.
In the 184-bout, Smith wrestled up a weight class and pinned his opponent at 1:51 to propel Elmira to a 30-12 lead. A forfeit in the 285-bout secured the 36-18 victory for EC.
SOARING EAGLES EDGE PAST KEAN, 29-26
In their fourth and final dual of the day, the Soaring Eagles were paired with Kean University in a back-and-forth dual. Kean took an early 4-0 lead before Devin Strother pinned his opponent at 0:38 to capture a 6-0 advantage. Kean was relentless and worked ahead to a 20-6 lead over Elmira before a forfeit in the 165-weight class cut the deficit to 20-12.
Elmira started their comeback with Smith (184-bout) recording a 19-0 tech fall at 4:41, making the score 26-17. Trailing by nine, Monfort (197-bout) came up clutch with his second pin of the day at 2:13, bringing Elmira within three. John Robyck (285-bout) secured the victory for the Soaring Eagles after pinning his opponent at 0:57.
