Ithaca Men’s Wrestling Takes Second at the NYS Collegiate Championships Open

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's wrestling team competed at the NYS Collegiate Championships Open that was hosted by Onondaga Community College on Saturday, November 22. The Bombers took home second-place totaling 121.5 team points as the United Stated Marine Academy (USMMA) won the competition with 129 points.

Two Bombers won their brackets: Jay McDonnell at 133 pounds and Ryan Galka at 197 lbs. Ithaca also saw Chris Reddy take home second at 165, Konrad Parker was second at 174, and both Tomah Gummow and Kamdyn Dorchester earned third place finishes at 125 lbs. and 285 lbs., respectively.

Gummow won his opening bout pinning NYU's Naele Pathak in 1:54 but would drop his next matchup to be sent to the consolation bracket. He would battle back by earning a 18-3 tech fall over Shane Dobbins that was followed by a tight 4-2 decision over Xavier Diaz (NYU) to take home third.

Kamdyn Dorchester would also go 3-1 on Saturday. He topped Nassau Community College's Domonick Albertelli by a 7-2 score but fell to Josh Harkless (RIT) in his next bout. He fought back by pinning Oneonta's Kenny Jackson (3:58) in his third-place bout and defeated Nick Barret 1-0 to get there.

At 165 lbs., Chris Reddy was uber impressive winning his first two bouts via decisions over Jacob Brockey (USSMA, 6-2) and Max Morrison (Brockport, 12-8). Reddy would then score all across the mat in a 23-6 tech fall over NYU's Jack Bowen. He was then nipped in the championship bout falling in a 5-4 decision to Viviano Gutierrez.

Konrad Parker would also fall in his championship bout to finish second at 174 lbs. He was 3-0 prior beginning his day winning a 7-6 matchup against Evan Roudebush. He also defeated Vandavian Way in a 12-4 decision and Brockport's Gavin McLaughlin in a 12-0 major decision.

Jay McDonnell continued his strong start at IC going 3-0 to earn first at 133 lbs. He began the afternoon by pinning USMMA's Charles Case in 6:11 and followed that up with an impressive 2-1 decision over Harrison Gordon (NYU). He would win his championship bout in dominant fashion taking down Isaak Arevalo in a 13-5 major decision.

Also winning his bracket was Ryan Galka at 197 lbs. as he won each of his matchups via a decision. He took down Bennett Sonneborn (5-0), Simon Lingle (4-1) and in the championship bout he defeated USMMA's Maxwell Corral, 9-3.

The Bombers return to the mat at the York New Standard Invite that will take place December 5-6.
