NEWS

JERSEY CITY, NJ - Utica University's women's wrestling team traveled to Jersey City, NJ to compete in their first meets of the season at a quad meet hosted by New Jersey City University (NJCU). Alvernia University and Frostburg State University joined Utica and the hosts at the event. The Pioneers faced tough opponents throughout the afternoon and were limited to a single team point across the lineup.

Utica opened the day against the host Gothic Knights, falling 43-5. Hannah Kusmierczak (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) provided the team's lone victory of the match with a forfeit win at 145 pounds, while the remaining bouts went in NJCU's favor by a mix of pins, technical falls, and forfeits. The Pioneers then met Frostburg State in match two, dropping a 43-0 decision. Utica saw several early-period finishes go against them, including pins at 124, 145, and 180, as Frostburg controlled the pace throughout the dual.

The final match of the afternoon came against Alvernia, where Utica fell 49-1. Kusmierczak earned the team's only point of the dual in the 145-pound bout, and Utica battled through a series of challenging matchups across the remaining weights.

The squad is next set to compete in the Muhlenberg College Novice Tournament on Sunday, December 7th. The action is scheduled to take place at 10:00 am at the John Deitrich Field House in Allentown, PA.
