ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta wrestling senior Aydin DeForest (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) and freshman Kingston Strouse (Northport, N.Y./Northport) received the SUNYAC Wrestler and Wrestling Rookie of the Week awards, respectively, for the week of December 8-14, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. Both Red Dragons won their match in Oneonta's 31-16 dual victory against WPI over the weekend.
DeForest recorded a first period fall in the dual at 174 lbs., pinning Theo Sawyers in 2:54. Strouse scored a 17-1 tech fall in 3:39 at 157 pounds against the Engineers Lucas Marchese. It is the second time this season that Strouse was named the conference Wrestling Rookie of the Week.
Oneonta (1-0) returns to action on Tuesday, January 6, for a tri-meet in Keystone against Keystone College and Penn State Altoona starting at 12 pm.
