Williamstown, MA- The Alfred State men's wrestling team started the 2026 portion of the season with seven place finishers at the Williams Open.
Kyle Meyer took second in the 149 bracket. He tallied two major decisions, a tech fall, and an overtime victory to secure a place in the championship match. Meyers would fall in a 7-6 decision for second place.
Sean Malenfant finished in second place in the 184 bracket. He tallied three falls before suffering a loss in the championship match.
In the 285 bracket, Aaron Johnson took second place. He opened the day with four wins, two falls and two decision wins to earn a spot in the championship match. In that match he suffered a 7-4 overtime decision loss for second place.
Xavier Vargas took home third place in the 125 bracket. After a first round bye, he notched a first round fall before dropping the semi-final match. Vargas would secure a tech fall win to take third place.
Keeran Timerman finished in third place in the 184 bracket. Timerman notched a major decision before falling in the semi-final match. Then in the third-place match, he tallied a second-round fall to take third.
Other place finishers were Owen Cummings (157) in sixth place, and Chris Herriman (174) in sixth place.
The Pioneers will be back in action next weekend as they host the AMCC Duals on January 10th starting at 10 am.
