The Pioneers Secured Two Wins In Tri-Match, While Taking The 197 Title At The Jamestown Open

New York, NY - The Alfred State men's wrestling team tallied two wins in their Tri-Match at Hunter College. The Pioneers took down Hunter 33-14, and Kean 59-0. The Pios move to 7-5 in duals on the year.

In the dual against Kean, Jordan Busby notched a fall win in the 125 bout in 1:30. Xavier Vargas (133), Mason Drew (141), and Kyle Meyer (149) all secured forfeit wins. Then Owen Cummings (157), George Racz (174), Sean Malenfant (184), Piece Tran (197), and Aaron Johnson (285) tallied first period fall victories, with Brandon DellaPia securing a tech fall win in the 165 bout.

In the dual against Hunter, Vargas opened with a first period fall in the 125 match. Hunter took the 133 and 141 matches before Meyer tallied a 5-4 decision win in the 149 match to take the 9-8 dual lead. Then in the 157 match, Cummings notched his second first round fall. DellaPia tallied a 1-0 decision win in the 165 match, to make it a 18-8 dual lead. Racz and Malenfant secured back-to-back first period falls in the 174 and 184 bouts. After dropping the 197 bout, Johnson notched an 8-4 decision win to secure the 33-14 win.

Jamestown Open

Hunter LaVigne won the 197 bracket at the Jamestown Open today. After a first round bye, LaVigne tallied a 1:35 fall over Bear Horgan (JCU). He followed with a 1:07 fall over Tufan Khalilov (PSCW). In the semifinals match, he notched his third first round fall of the day in 1:11 over Juuso Young (JCU). In the first-place match, LaVigne took down Gaetano Savelli (GU) in a 17-1 tech fall victory to take the title.

The Pioneers will be back in action on February 7th as they head to Baldwin Wallace for the John Summa Invite.
