200 Wrestlers Invade JCC for 2026 Jayhawk Open

NEWS

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) athletic staff hosted its annual Jayhawk Open on Saturday, with 203 wrestlers swarming the nest for the all-day event.

JCC had three participants take the mat: Shayne Irvin (157 pounds), Evan Leonard (174 pounds), and Brad Smith (184 pounds) were sporting the green and gold.

Irvin advanced to the second round of the consolation bracket at 157, before falling out of the event after a battle with Gannon University, a divison two program.

At 174 pounds, Leonard went one step further, seeing his tournament end in the third round of the consolation bracket. It was also a tough draw for the team captain, taking on a wrestler from Edinboro University, which features a Division One wrestling program.

The Jayhawks' best participant was Smith at 184 pounds. The sophomore captain went a lenghty battle, 2-1, in his second round showdown with Jack Coughlin from John Carroll University. Unfortunately, Smith bowed out in his next bout, ending his night.

Jamestown's wrestlers return to the mats on Saturday, February 7th, when they visit Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania for a tre-meet at 2:00 PM.
