No. 23 Ithaca Men’s Wrestling Takes Down No. 24 Stevens and Nassau CC

ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 23 ranked Ithaca College men's wrestling team hosted both No. 24 Stevens Institute of Technology and Nassau Community College inside Ben Light Gymnasium on Saturday. The Bombers overcame an early deficit and took the final four weight classes as they first defeated Stevens 24-15 and that was followed by them taking down Nassau by a team score of 50-6. With the two wins, Ithaca now stands at 7-6 overall in duals.

NO. 23 ITHACA 24, NO. 24 STEVENS 15 (F)

Bouts began at 125 pounds with Cosmo Damiani representing Ithaca. Stevens' Charles Piccione used a pair of takedowns to take a 6-3 lead after two periods and went on to earn an 8-3 decision. Jay McDonnell put the Bombers on the board at 133 pounds, picking up an 8-2 decision over Vincent Principe to even the team score at 3-3.

In a matchup between nationally ranked opponents at 141 pounds, Nico Diaz scored on a second period shot to build a 4-0 lead over Isaias Torres and held on for a 4-1 decision. Ithaca answered at 149 pounds as Will Bentrim defeated George Pavis, 9-4, to tie the team score at 6-6.

Stevens regained the lead at 157 pounds behind Ryan Smith's 12-1 major decision over Brian Bienus. The Ducks added to their advantage at 165 pounds when Tyler Roe recorded a 15-0 technical fall over Chris Reddy, extending the lead to 15-6.

Ithaca responded at 174 pounds with a strong effort from No. 5-ranked Konrad Parker. Parker scored early takedowns in both the first and second periods to build a 6-1 lead and went on to earn an 11-1 major decision, cutting the deficit to 15-10. At 184 pounds, Xavier Pommells outmuscled Sawyer Pugh, scoring back-to-back early takedowns on his way to a 17-8 major decision to pull the Bombers within one team point.

Ryan Galka delivered another key performance at 197 pounds. After scoring first against Terrance Thomas, Galka consistently controlled the match, taking a 9-2 lead into the final period before securing an 18-5 major decision to give Ithaca its first team lead of the day, 18-15.

The dual came down to heavy weight, where Noah Berlin-Langston and Kamdyn Dorchester entered the final period tied at 5-5. With just five seconds remaining, Dorchester caught his opponent and earned the pin to clinch the match.

NO. 23 ITHACA 50, NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE 6 (F)

Cosmo Damiani set the tone to open the dual, earning an impressive defensive fall over Shane Dobbins at 2:11. Ithaca continued to build momentum as first year George McAteer captured the Bombers' second straight fall, pinning Jaime Sanchez in 3:52.

Nassau got on the scoreboard at 141 pounds, as Jonathan Fox defeated Ben White by an 11-3 major decision. Will Bentrim responded with a dominant performance against Zachary Tinyes, recording two near falls and a reversal on his way to a 13-2 major decision to extend Ithaca's lead. Brian Bienus followed with a bonus-point victory, scoring a 15-0 technical fall over John De La Rosa to push the Bombers' advantage to 21-4.

Ithaca continued to score across the lineup at 165 pounds, as Chris Reddy posted an 18-0 technical fall over Kenaje Demosthene to make it 26-4 in favor of the Bombers.

After a scoreless opening period at 174 pounds, Konrad Parker produced an explosive takedown early in the second period that led to a fall over Anthony Valasquez at 4:57. The Bombers padded their lead further with Xavier Pommells earning a forfeit victory at 184 pounds, increasing the margin to 44-4.

Ryan Galka added another highlight, pinning Noah Foster in 3:56 at 197 pounds, and Charlie Turner closed the dual in dominant fashion with an 18-2 technical fall.

Next up, the Bombers will compete in the Oneonta Quad where they will square off against SUNY Oneonta, Williams College and Wesleyan University on Saturday, February 7.
