DWC - Sounds like coach Walker and the DWC Girls Wrestling program are just getting started.

Just one year ago, there was only one girl wrestling amongst the boys. Fast forward to today... the program has grown tremendously and 12 girls make up one of the best teams in the area.

The DWC girls wrestling team has shown immense growth not only in numbers, but in success.

They hosted Warsaw on Tuesday night for Senior Night, honoring their lone senior, Hope Ammarell. DWC closed out the regular season in dominant fashion with a 35–5 victory.
This program caught fire quickly, gaining traction all season and reaching milestone after milestone. The team finished 6–2 overall, sent multiple girls to the podium at every tournament, and had several wrestlers ranked in New York State at their respective weight classes.

Next up: Sectionals in Dundee on Friday, where the ladies will compete for a chance to qualify for the State Tournament later this month.

“What a season it has been!" Coach Justin Walker says. "I had no idea what to expect this season. A few girls showed interest, then more, and more, and more. I finally took the initiative and worked with both school districts to form this area’s first all-girls team. It’s been a ton of work for me and the girls, but they’ve had my back just as much as I’ve had theirs. Coaching only girls is an entirely different world, and I had to adjust a lot — but man, did I enjoy it!

What a proud coach.

"I love this crew with my entire being and will never forget the season we’ve had. We head out Friday to try and make history again by qualifying for the State Tournament. I’m so proud of my girls and how much they’ve grown. The work has been put in, and hopefully I’ve done enough to help push them even further. Congrats, Hope!”
