Hoose goes out as state champion; Torres takes 2nd as 8 area wrestlers make podium

NEWS

ALBANY — When Southwestern’s Tavio Hoose was a freshman he took the state by storm as a 6-seed winning the 172-pound Division 2 state championship in a narrow 5-4 decision over Greyson Meak of Cold Spring Harbor-VIII.

It looked as if it could be the first of many state championships for Hoose, but the following season he was upset by Meak in the 190-pound finals and then his junior season while at St. Francis he suffered an MCL injury and was upset in the Catholic High School Athletic Association championship.
