ALBANY — Gianni Velazquez, his father, and Geneva head coach James Lyons have spent countless hours driving to wrestling tournaments and camps over the years. One of the tournaments this season was the 22nd Eastern States Wrestling Classic in Clifton Park.
Leaving that tournament on Jan. 10, Lyons knew right then that Velazquez was going to be a true contender for a state championship.
As for Velazquez, he knew it from the beginning of the season.
