CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – St. John Fisher 157-pounder Paul Lichter's spectacular season came to an end on Friday in the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the Aliant Energy Powerhouse.
Lichter, 22-6 overall, finished his junior campaign tied for the team lead in victories. He joined Alex Samson (141 pounds, 2024) as the second Fisher wrestler to compete in the national tournament since the recommencement of the program in 2022-23.
Lichter began Friday's action against Thomas DiResta of Johnson & Wales. After a scoreless first period, DiResta put four points on the board in the second frame with an escape and a takedown. Lichter, with 58 seconds remaining in the third, pulled himself within one with a three-point takedown, but DiResta added an escape point with 13 seconds left and was able to hang on for a 5-3 win by decision.
On the backside of the bracket, Lichter fell to Wilmington's Thane McCoy 14-2 by major decision.
