ArmDrag.com is looking for volunteers to help populate the Archives.  We're not only looking for results, but tournament brackets, photos, and articles as well.  Many college and public libraries have microform copies of complete newspapers dating back over 100 years.  In them, you can find lots of wrestling results. If you enjoy doing research, and you have some time, make a trip to the library and check it out.  Ask a librarian how to get started and how to print out the articles that you find.

Wrestlers: Kings of the East

Many things are needed to produce a record as impressive as the one our varsity wrestling team compiled this year. Devotion and the personal desire of each member, plus the benefit of excellent coaching, are foremost among the requirements for a great team. Bishop Kearney had both.

Eight senior held starting positions out of a possible twelve. The team realized the cost of victory and readily paid the price in the long, hard practices dating from November 1 to early March.

After winning its first five dual meets, the possibility of Bishop Kearney having its first undefeated season seemed more than just a dream. In the Eastridge Christmas Invitational, Bishop Kearney placed seven wrestlers in the finals and captured first place for the second time in four years. In capturing first place, the team suffered a few injuries which prevented three of its starting wrestlers from competing the following week. The match was against East Rochester, the county champs, where the team registered its only defeat of the season. After this heartbreaking loss, Ithaca, a well known power in N.Y.S., succeeded in tieing us, 19-19――the only other blemish for the season.

In the New York State Catholic Tournament, the B.K. grapplers placed 11 out of 12 in the finals. Bishop Kearney took eight firsts, three seconds, and one fourth, placing them in first place and securing the first place trophy for being the best Catholic team in the city. (BK yearbook, 1967)

John Numetko sets up his opponent for a pin with a tight waist and ankle pick in a 12-1 decision. The grapplers were handed their first and only loss of the season by the undefeated East Rochester team.
Greg Brown puts the finishing hold on his opponent. The Kings took First Place in the Eastridge Christmas Tournament for the second consecutive year.
