Five area wrestlers make NYS semifinals

ALBANY — Five local wrestlers, three of them top-seeds, all kept their state title aspirations alive by winning their first two matches and advancing into the semifinals at the NYS Wrestling Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Top seeds Dane Heberlein (132 pounds) and Matthew Gaiser (170), both of Alexander, along with Warsaw's Noah Grover (160) all won their first two matches during Friday's opening day.

Alexander's Nick Young (126) also advanced with a pair of wins giving the Trojans a program-best three NYS semifinalists while Byron-Bergen's Will Thompson (182) earned his first ever semifinal appearance.
