No. 16 Brockport Takes Home Two Wins At WPI Duals

WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 16 ranked College at Brockport wrestling team went 2-1 in their dual matches on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 4 Johnson and Wales 18-16 before taking down Southern Maine 27-18 and No. 21 WPI 30-12. Brockport is now 7-1 in dual matches this season.

No. 1 ranked Jonathan Haas went 2-1 on the day, suffering his first loss of the season in a tough 4-3 decision against Southern Maine. He bounced back though, defeating Johnson and Wale's Jay Albis before pinning WPI's Michael Aquino in 2:32.

Zach Barker had an outstanding showing at 141, winning all three of his bouts on the day. He started off with a 10-0 major decision win against Johnson and Wales, before earning two wins by decision to finish the day unblemished.

Sean Peacock was just as dominant at 149, also going 3-0 including two pins. In his final bout of the day against WPI, Peacock needed just 0:18 to pin his opponent, earning 15 points for the team over the course of the day.

At 157, Corey Farrell went 2-1 on the day, falling to Johnson and Wales' Tim Higginson in a hard fought 8-7 decision before taking down Southern Maine's Zac Thompson 14-10 and pinning his opponent from WPI in 1:21.

No. 9 ranked Triston Engle continued his reign of terror in the 197-lb weight class with another undefeated day. The junior started things off with a 4-0 decision victory, pinned his next opponent in the third round, and finished his day with another decision win, this time 6-0.

Thaddus Jeffries, Dillon Stowell, Austin Dean, Jackson Bell, and Richard Mills all earned one win apiece for Brockport, helping earn them the 2-1 team record.

The wrestling team will be back in action tomorrow when the team travels to Jamestown Community College for the annual tournament.
