Carmenatty reaches podium

NEWS

ALBANY — Keagan Carmenatty's experience at the 2018 NYSPHSAA Division II Wrestling Championships could have ended Friday afternoon. And nobody would have thought the less of the South Seneca standout had it been so.

Carmenatty suffered what appeared to be a broken collarbone in the 220-pound quarterfinals during a heartbreaking 7-5 overtime loss to fourth-seeded Tyler Rice of Norwich. Instead he ventured forward, battling the injury and the pain that accompanied it. When his tournament finally came to an end Saturday afternoon, the Falcon junior had found his way to the podium, garnering a sixth-place medal.

"The trainer is pretty sure it's a broken collarbone," South Seneca coach Ken Sweet said prior to the start of Saturday's action.
