PITTSBURGH, P.A. - Redshirt-freshman Lou DePrez fell 3-0 to Lehigh's Ryan Presich in the bloodround at NCAA's Friday evening, ending his run at the tournament. DePrez went 3-2 overall in his first showing on the national stage.
DePrez started the day facing a conference opponent in #28 Noah Stewart of Army, who he defeated earlier in the season. Lou came out strong in the first period with a takedown to build an early 2-0 lead over Stewart. The second period was a neutral battle between the two, with DePrez holding his lead into the third. Stewart got hit with a stall, and a final takedown for DePrez gave him a 5-0 cushion. Stewart grabbed his sole point from an escape, but 1:47 ride time sealed the 6-1 victory for DePrez.
The 184-pounder's second win of the day came from a match with Big Ten opponent #19 Cameron Caffey. DePrez came out ready to go with a takedown at 1:46, followed by an escape from Caffey to make it 2-1. Caffey ties the match up at 2-2 with an escape in the second. A scoreless third period brings the match into overtime at 2-2. DePrez shot early in sudden victory but no takedown was awarded. Head coach Kyle Borshoff tossed the challenge brick, and after replay the ref overturned the call sealing a 4-2 victory for DePrez over Caffey to advance him to the round of 12.
For his final match of the day, DePrez faced conference rival in Lehigh's #8 Ryan Preisch. Early in the match Preisch was able to gain advantage on ride time over DePrez. The first two periods were scoreless before Preisch grabbed two points on a reversal making it 2-0. Preisch received one point from ride time to clinch a 3-0 victory. DePrez battled throughout the match but was unable to come up with any points to offset Preisch.
